Calypso

Work in progress

Calypso is my homemade rackmount AI workstation. The hardware side of the build is done and Calypso boots up; what's left is the software, and that's where the project stands today.

The build

I built Calypso by hand around an older dual-Xeon workstation board, giving it a second life as a home for local AI. Dual-socket platforms like this one bring plenty of cores, memory capacity, and PCIe lanes to the table, which makes them a capable foundation for running AI models on my own hardware.

What's next

  1. Local models: currently getting local AI models spun up and running reliably on the hardware. This is the step I'm working on now.
  2. Odysseus AI: once the models are stable, Odysseus AI will serve them up for my own use.
  3. Tailscale: the final step is opening Odysseus up through Tailscale, so I can reach it securely from anywhere in the world.
